Don't Say Gay, Or???

For about as long as there have been people, there have been homosexual people. For the same period of time, there have been straight people. The existence of one has virtually no impact on the existence of the other. Sure, at some times homosexuality has been more socially acceptable than others,  but it hasn't ceased to exist ever. Nor has "straightness." Just because we don't acknowledge gay people, doesn't make them less real. Some people don't get that memo though.

In Missouri there is a bill to ban saying the word "gay." Yes, they don't want them to say it. Because, you know, if you say the word "gay," and acknowledge gays exist, maybe some people will be gay.

I don't usually chime in on social issues, because in general I think they get too much press, but this one hit me. It is perfectly fine to say the word "gay." Acknowledging gay people, and allowing them the same rights as the rest of us, is not going to lead to more gay people, nor should we care if it does. You are born how you are, and that's it. If we, as a society, ignore gay people, they will still exist. Let's get over the stupid, silly stuff. These are people, let's treat them as such.
