Like most Flyers' fans out there, I was overjoyed yesterday to finally send Sidney Crosby and his boys home with a playoff whipping and a long off-season to look forward to. Within an hour after the game ended though, my thoughts shifted forward a round, and I started watching the Capitals-Bruins game, and hoping for a Caps win, as much as that made me sick (I hate DC).
You see, it was only a week or two before the playoffs that I called the Flyers a "fraud." Yeah, I do regret that now. It's easy to get caught up in a loss to the Rangers and say this team isn't real, but this team is super young, and they just showed some toughness in that series that you cannot teach, and don't often see. I still think they need some luck on their side though to win a Cup this year, and unfortunately, we didn't get it yesterday.
We need someone else to knock off the Rangers. If the Rangers lose tonight, that's awesome, problem solved, and Ottawa can go to Boston for good measure. I'm all for that. If the Rangers win though, we better hope for a Jersey comeback, beginning at home in game six. If the Flyers can avoid New York in round two, there's hope. If not, I'm tempering my expectations now. This team is young, and I'm a believer now in all of the potential. I'm just not sold that they can beat New York yet.
