The Olympics are Killing Themselves

The Olympics dropped wrestling from the 2020 events schedule. The reaction has been predictably negative. It should be.

Wrestling will go the way of Baseball, as sports that we would watch in America for the Olympic games, but won't be able to because they won't be played. Wrestling is one of the oldest sports in the world, and an original Olympic one.

At some point you ask yourself, do the games even matter anymore?

On the money. The Olympics are a TV show. If they could credibly have ice skating every two years, they would.

Shame to see a classic sport summarily booted. Not every country in the world has the same sport interests as the US, and wrestling is huge in a lot of countries.

Mark this down now- the first time either of us agrees with the Iranian public on a decision from an international body. Ever. And the last time probably.

I only link this with baseball actually for non-American reasons. In both sports, Asia is a powerhouse. In wrestling, that extends to the Middle East and the Eastern Bloc as well, in baseball into Latin America. Notice here, Western Europe seems to have a heavy bias their way in picking sports.
